Basic Maths (BM)
Foundation Programme

The BM module, which is a prerequisite of Applied Mathematics aims to give students a basic understanding of Mathematics. The Mathematics component aims to equip students with the basics of Mathematics to strengthen their foundation and gain thorough understanding of the skills necessary to meet the cognitive and practical requirements of higher education or undergraduate studies. The tasks mainly covers real numbers and its properties, operations on fractions, percentages, and order of operations, exponents, measurements and conversions, polynomials, factorization, equations and inequalities, radicals, and trigonometry.

Academic Writing (AcW)
Foundation Programme

This course is about different aspects of academic writing in English. Here you will develop the skill of academic composition. There will be lessons on sentence construction, academic appropriateness of lexis and style, coherence and cohesion.

The course will discuss the structure of a paragraph and an essay, ways of presenting the main idea and supporting it with supplementary details. There will be classes on letter writing, paragraph editing & strategies of planning for writing i.e. (brainstorming & outlining). You should be able to compose your own paragraphs, formal letter and essay based on the skills taught throughout the semester.

Academic Reading (AcR)
Foundation Programme

You will find this module both inspiring and academically challenging. It will help you to learn the necessary reading strategies to understand any given English text. We will follow “student centred approach” in order to encourage students’ participation. It is your responsibility to ensure that you attempt and complete the tasks that are assigned to you to be able to contribute in the classroom discussions.

Vocabulary in Context (VC)
Foundation Programme

Vocabulary in Context module focuses on vocabulary building and acquisition via an integrated approach (Reading, writing, listening and speaking). Choice of items is governed by the thematic design of the module, and generic value in the college with IT, Business and English streams. Vocabulary in Context module also provides a basis to better support semester 2 modules such as Academic Reading and Academic Writing. Thus,  the VC module enhances and improves students' reading comprehension, writing, listening, speaking and basic communication in various contexts.

Applied Mathematics (AM)
Foundation Programme

The AM module, which is a prerequisite of higher Mathematics. The Mathematics component aims to equip students with the necessary skills in Applied Mathematics is necessary for degree studies of all courses. Various topics are mainly covered ranging from business, Engineering, and IT applications. The tasks are mainly focusing on graphs, equations, functions, and word problems, and the basics of Statistics. Most of these are carefully laid out in order to train students to be well-organized, mentally prepared in Mathematics, and strengthen their mathematical, logical, and analytical aspects, which are very necessary for real-life. The Statistics part allows students to gather, analyze, and interpret data and make sound decisions based on analysis and probability.


Study Skills (SS)
Foundation Programme

Study skills are transferable skills that students will take beyond their education into new contexts - organisational skills, time management, prioritising, ability to analyse, and self-discipline required to remain focused and motivated. Study skills relate closely to the type of skills that employers seek. This module has been designed to equip students to manage their study skills. It endeavours to helps students develop conscious, deliberate control over the mechanisms of their own learning and achieve effective study practice. This module encourages collaborative thinking.

Vocabulary in Communication (VIC)
Foundation Programme

The module aims at developing students’ lexical competency by learning useful vocabulary, enabling them to communicate effectively and provides a forum for further consolidation of vocabulary used for communication in different contexts.
